Benfleet First Responders

The Benfleet First Responders was set-up in February 2005 following an article in the local paper from Essex Ambulance Service asking for volunteers within the local community to come forward to help and support the Ambulance Service providing critical care within the first 8minutes of any life threatening condition. With just 3 volunteers in that year they attended 299 life threatening calls. In 2006 the team grew to 11 volunteers and so did the calls they attended going up to 330 calls. In that same year the Essex Ambulance Service merged and became the East of England Ambulance Service (EEAS).

A milestone was reached on 4th April 2008 when the group were activated to their 1000th call which was only the second group in Essex to reach this figure. In May 2008 the group had increased to a record 14 volunteers.

Many of the group do other work i.e. Legal administrator, Carer, Students, Travel Agent, Private Ambulance staff, Police officer, Civil Servant, Security Guard, Manual Worker etc, and give up any spare time to help people within the community when called upon by the East of England Ambulance Service.
